Living at home and maintaining independence for as long as possible is a high priority and desire for most seniors. Thankfully we are blessed with access to better health care, improvements in medical technology, and more awareness of good nutrition and proper exercise. As an aging population, we are living longer and in better health.
However, aging does present increasing challenges in maintaining wellness and independence. Presbyterian Homes and Services of Genesee Valley, which does business under the name of “Seniorsfirst”, has some solutions.
Seniorsfirst offers a broad array of personalized services to help support seniors in their own homes:
- Personal assistants or companions to perform small chores and ensure safety
- Housekeeping
- Home maintenance—including small repairs, painting, wallpapering, light plumbing and electrical work—just about anything that needs doing
- Home-delivered meals, delivered 365 days per year, with special attention to the dietary needs of the elderly
- Shopping—the client can either accompany the shopper or provide a shopping list
- Transportation—our drivers escort clients from door to door
- Lawn service
- Banking and bill paying
- Home health care—including personal hygiene
In addition, Seniorsfirst also provides services outside the home:
- Day and respite programs keep loved ones safe during the day, evening, and at night, providing relief and peace of mind to tired caregivers.
- Seniors may also maintain or even improve their health by participating with Seniorfirst Health & Fitness. The programs include a state-of-the-art exercise room, and a therapeutic pool with chairlift, and a relaxing whirlpool.
- All services are provided by senior-friendly, insured employees who have passed a thorough background check.
Kirkhaven provides 24-hour accommodations for 147 residents in four basic service areas: Transitional Care (which includes rehabilitation), traditional Long Term Skilled Nursing Care, Alzheimer's Special Care, and Terminal or Hospice Care. Kirkhaven’s size is one of our strategic advantages: we are large enough to offer a diversity of services and yet small enough to still feel like a family.
Kirkhaven is located just east of downtown Rochester at 254 Alexander Street, next to the former Genesee Hospital. Our courtyard borders Park Avenue, a street known for fine dining and unique shopping experiences.
Valley Manor Apartments, New York State's first independent senior living community, has been the standard to which all other facilities strive to match in amenities and service, since 1971.
Valley Manor Apartments is an eight-story mid-rise with 147 spectacular apartments. There is a choice of nine different apartment styles. You may choose from several one-bedroom and one-bath to a variety of extra spacious two-bedroom and two-bath apartments. Most apartments feature full-length, private balconies, walk-in closets, central air conditioning, kitchens and emergency call systems.
As a faith-based organization, Seniorsfirst’s sole mission is to serve seniors; as a not-for-profit company, the fees are more competitive than most and extremely reasonable. Seniorsfirst provides services primarily in the city and on the east side.
