Bible Study at Edgerton Square
(An Outreach of People’s Ministry in Christ)

Each Wednesday night a couple of us from People’s Ministry, a dozen or so brothers and sisters from Edgerton Square and Jesus, meet and share our lives. (Edgerton Square is a facility operated by De Paul Mental Health).

We began to set up the room, arrange the chairs, get the music ready, and pass out the Bibles, when Ann said, “we’ll go get some more chairs”. I was surprised when they came back with six. “Why would we need 12 chairs?” I wondered, having not attended for a few weeks, I hadn’t realized how large the group had grown.

But as six o’clock drew near, people began to come, and come and come! With eager smiles on their faces, they welcomed us into their “home” in anticipation of meeting with our Lord, and hearing His good Word.

As we sang “Bind us Together Lord” a peace fell over our group. We then lifted our hearts to God and asked in song, “Show me Your Ways, that I might walk with you…” Ann led the discussion on how good it was to be in God’s family, and to be able to walk with Him daily, no matter what our circumstances.

Our Bible text came from John 15, “Jesus the True Vine”. It “just so happened” (thank you Lord) that there was a vine-like plant in the room that provided a visual example of the interdependence God intends for each of us to have with Him. “Remain in Me, and I will remain in you…”

Throughout the study, Ann emphasized Jesus’ love for each person. She explained God’s great plan for each of us to walk with Him daily, to partake of His life-giving Spirit, and to experience His unchanging love. As I glanced around the room, I saw joy on each face. Each person there was receiving just what they needed from our loving Savior.

And so it goes, each Wednesday night at Edgerton Square. A couple of us from People’s Ministry, a dozen or so brothers and sisters from Edgerton Square and Jesus, meet and share our lives.
