Ecumenical Ministries
- Building Minds In Sudan, Inc. $2,500
- The ministry seeks to provide educational opportunity to Southern Sudanese students, support gender equity through the co-education of girls and boys and assist in the rebuilding of Southern Sudan following the devastating war that plagued the nation from 1983–2005. BMIS is raising funds to build primary school buildings in small villages where children attend school under a tree or in mud and straw huts.
- Cameron Community Ministries $7,000
- Volunteers and staff at Cameron provide families living in Rochester’s northwest neighborhood with meals, clothing, and educational experiences to build life-skills and positive values. After school and summer youth programs allow school-age children recreational experiences in a structured, safe, and nurturing environment.
- The Main Street Store Community Action of Orleans and Genesee, Inc. $5,000
- The mission statement for Community Action of Orleans & Genesee reads: To provide services, with dignity and respect, that help people become self-sufficient. The Main Street Store in downtown Albion has two storefronts that house a Thrift Shoppe and Boutique, with other areas offering a variety of services dedicated to increasing and maintaining self-sufficiency.
- East Rochester Community Resource Center $500
- The services offered include a food shelf, used clothing center, used furniture and household items. A crisis fund is used with discretion to help people in emergency situations for help with back rent, utilities shut-offs, medical bills and prescriptions. A transportation pool with drivers who will take people to doctor appointments, run errands, grocery shopping with a week’s notice is also provided.
- Farmworker Legal Services of New York, Inc. $1,500
- Through direct outreach to migrant labor camps and other sites used for housing, Farmworker Legal Services provides education on workers legal rights and training on harmful effects of pesticides and AIDS. In addition, the staff provides information and assistance on gender discrimination, civil rights violations, and domestic violence.
- Focus On the Children $1,500
- Focus on the Children (FOTC) serves children and families with needs that cannot be met sufficiently by any other program in Livingston County. With their help, families find the resources they need to better provide a safe, secure and happy environment for their children. The majority of the children FOTC serves are under age 5.
- Genesee Orleans Ministry of Concern, Inc. $6,000
- This agency provides emergency services for the economically poor, and assists and encourages members of the poverty community to become independent, self-sufficient contributing members of society.
- Geneseo Parish Outreach Center, Inc. $1,500
- The Outreach Center offers a range of holistic services, and the work is carried out through the efforts of an all-volunteer staff. Doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants provide access to healthcare and dental care to those who need it and who have limited access any other way. Other volunteers provide essential auxiliary services that keep the Center running
- Judicial Process Commission $3,000
- The JPC provides support services for those involved in the criminal justice system, educates the public, and advocates for changes in public policy.
- Leroy Christian Community Project $1,500
- LCCP is a shared ecumenical outreach ministry with the mission to nurture in Christ’s Name and Spirit, the children, youth and elderly through it’s programs and activities, including an After School Program, Teen Drop-In Center, and Caregiver Support Group.
- Livingston County Coalition Of Churches $3,500
- LCCS, through jail ministry, lifestyle education, senior home care, and a food pantry network, fosters empowerment and advocacy in the Livingston County community.
- People’s Ministry In Christ $800
- People’s Ministry in Christ was established in 1995 for the purpose of having a Presbyterian presence in the Dewey-Emerson area of the city following the closing of Christ Presbyterian Church. Volunteers and people who regularly attend PMIC continue to carry on the ministry there of providing spiritual and practical help to the neighborhood.
- RAIHN (Homeless Family Emergency Housing Program) $2,500
- The overall goal is to increase the quality of life for homeless families in Rochester; enabling people to become self-sufficient and independent. This goal is achieved by providing temporary shelter, meals and support for the parent(s) and their children so that they may find housing and, if possible, employment.
- Rural and Migrant Ministry $5,000
- RMM’s Accompaniment program stands with rural workers as they seek to improve their working and living conditions. The program seeks to educate and motivate congregations, student groups and labor unions to join farmworkers in advocating for equal labor rights.
- Spiritus Christi Mental Health Center $1,500
- The Center provides free mental health care for uninsured and underinsured children and adults in the Greater Rochester area.
