Mission to New Orleans

Background
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church (SCAPC) has coordinated and hosted outside work groups to assist families in the Greater New Orleans community through the RHINO (Rebuilding Hope In New Orleans) program.
Since March 2006, the Presbytery of Genesee Valley has sponsored eight teams. This ninth group will team up with Rochester Help to New Orleans (RH2NO, a ministry of Third Presbyterian Church), and will work with RHINO and New Orleans Habitat for Humanity (NOAHH) to rebuild homes and hope in New Orleans. Teams
Teams are comprised of volunteers from congregations all around the Presbytery. All volunteers must be 18 years or older. Volunteers pay their own way or receive assistance from their churches. Every effort is made to keep the cost low as low as possible. Significant costs are underwritten by St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Participation
As you prayerfully consider your participation in this adventure, bear in mind the following:
- There are physical requirements such as carrying your own luggage, walking, and physical labor at work sites
- You will be required to sign this Health and Liability Release Form. This work is not recommended for persons with asthma or severe allergies.
- Group meals will be provided and you may not be able to control what you are served.
- Flexibility is a must. One of the joys of mission work is the unexpected.
- Participants are expected to be involved in all group gatherings and activities including group meals at SCAPC, Sunday worship, and evening bible study.
- There will be limited free time on the day of arrival (Monday) and departure (Sunday).
