Background
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church (SCAPC) and partners united human and monetary gifts to alleviate suffering in the Greater New Orleans community. Through the RHINO (Rebuilding Hope In New Orleans) program, SCAPC has coordinated and hosted outside work groups to assist families in the city.
Since November 2005, RHINO has gutted over 200 homes, clearing a path for families to rebuild and return to their homes. The Presbytery of Genesee Valley has sponsored four teams since March 2006. Visit our Photo Gallery and Travel Blog to learn about our previous journeys.
This sixth team will work with RHINOto rebuild homes and hope in New Orleans.
Participation
As you prayerfully consider your participation in this adventure, bear in mind the following:
- There are physical requirements such as carrying your own luggage, walking, and physical labor at work sites
- You will be required to sign this Health and Liability Release Form. This work is not recommended for persons with asthma or severe allergies.
- Group meals will be provided and you may not be able to control what you are served.
- Flexibility is a must. One of the joys of mission work is the unexpected.
- Participants are expected to be involved in all group gatherings and activities while we are guests at St. Charles
- There will be free time on Friday and Saturday to explore on your own
